Located within the Sequoia National Forest in California, the Kern River Canyon Recreation Area follows the winding Kern River through a steep, rocky canyon flanked by towering cliffs and mixed conifer forests. The area covers several miles of river corridor characterized by whitewater rapids, calm pools, and scenic granite formations. The surrounding ecosystem features oak woodlands, chaparral, and riparian habitats supporting wildlife such as black bears, mule deer, and various bird species. The Kern River has long been valued for its recreational opportunities, particularly its world-class whitewater rafting and kayaking stretches, attracting enthusiasts from across the region. Anglers visit for trout and smallmouth bass fishing, while hikers and mountain bikers enjoy the rugged trails that explore forested slopes and river overlooks.
